The Montgomery Rose Company of Hadley, Massachusetts established the Talisman Rose in 1929.
According to family legend John Lamont, the older brother to our Jim Lamont, was instrumental in developing (breeding) the Talisman.
In this case, crossing the Ophelia rose with The Souvenir de Claudius Pernet rose. This ideally gives the new rose the best features of the original roses.
John and Jim Lamont were first cousins to Alex and Robert Montgomery, the founders of Montgomery Rose. The father of Alex and Robert was Alexander Montgomery, he was the Superintendent of Waban Rose located on Bacon Street in Natick, Massachusetts for over 35 years and later joined his sons at Montgomery Rose. Alexander was the brother to Maggie (Montgomery) Lamont. The mother to John and Jim Lamont (Grampa).
Recently, during a conversation with Aunt Margie (Tassinari) she was adamant that her father (Jim Lamont) created the Talisman along with his brother John.
No Matter how you look at it one of our ancestors took part in creating the Talisman. I have two growing in my back yard. They are beautiful and at first bloom you smell the fragrance clear across the yard.
Now I guess we know where Bob Lamont (Jim's son) gets his talent for growing roses.
